Founded in 1972 – one of the pioneers of Indian charcoal cooking, Copper Chimney is brand of contemporary Indian restaurant which has its influences from Peshawar to Delhi. Per their website – “At Copper Chimney, the Tandoors are fired at first light, grills marinated for over eight hours and the signature dal is slow-cooked to perfection.” I would have to agree to the same myself! Copper Chimney is full of a variety of flavors from all over India and Pakistan with the recipes refined and perfected over generations. The chefs (or ‘ustaads’ as they call them) are being trained and nurtured in-house which is very evident with the food which comes out of their kitchen!
They have recently revamped their operations in Pheonix Mall, Whitefield with quirky color interiors and uptown decor which goes in contrast to the food they serve which is more of an authentic experience. Having a bad experience from my last visit to Copper Chimney, I was a little skeptical to visit the restaurant but I am happy that I got through the hump and chose to give the place another chance!
Everything went perfectly, with the smiling faces of the staff to the excited chef who showed us their move of making roomali rotis from the kitchen! It was a fun and pleasurable night. The icing on the cake was the food. Oh! it was fantabulous. Having a weakness for grilled and charcoal smokey slow cooked north Indian cuisine, it felt I am in heaven. Their slow-cooked ‘Dal Maharaja’ is probably the second best dal makhani rendition I have ever had (first being ‘Dal Zaffran’ at Zaffran Exotica, Hyderabad)! Every item on the menu was prepared with so much love that you cant get enough of it.
The meal started with ‘Kadak Roomati’ which is basically a tough roomati roti topped with cheese! It was really great as a starter while waiting for the main course to come, though I would like to point out that the size is really big and can be reduced or cut into 2 portions for easier feed.
The starters were full of flavors and cooked to perfection. Special mention for the mutton seekh kabab and paneer tikka – give it a shot without a doubt. The drink we ordered were amazing as well – they do have a working bar which will cater to the major crowd in Bangalore. The sweet dish ‘Muzzafar’ we tried was great and a good way to end the meal. Although the phirni was too sweet and could have been lightened a little bit in order to flush out the flavors.
All said and done, it is a great place to visit while shopping in Phoenix Mall. No problem whatsoever – you can take my personal guarantee that you will be treated well and will be provided with the authentic taste which Copper Chimney is famous for.
